In cooperation with the Business Informatics program at Universiteit Utrecht, NLDITA and Don Day arrange a workshop prior to the NLDITA 2011 conference.
Title: Open document standards in the Enterprise Information Architecture
Description: This workshop will be a discussion/practicum format. We will start by introducing and facilitating discussion on the role of structured open document standards for cross-enterprise information strategies, with particular focus on using the architectural features of the OASIS DITA standard. Then we will select a project for a group practicum (high level design recommendation) that applies these principles to one of the following possible projects (to be elected by the group):
1. Design a specialization for for a semantically distinct information type in a particular vertical or niche industry. This involves both the information modeling proposal and considerations for the application architecture (ie, editing systems, content reuse, CMS considerations, etc.).
2. Propose a collaboration architecture for capturing and organizing the domain knowledge of researchers, engineers, project managers in a company.
3. Propose a collaborative review system based on COTS and Open Source tools for product documentation that integrates input from support logs and forums, and can enable warranted updates on short cycles.
This will be a facilitated discussion, not involving actual coding, but potentially resulting in a recommendation to the CIO of the presumed company.
Level: this is a high level (University master) workshop. Knowledge of programming, XML, Open Standards and related technology is required. Goal is to help to get practical experience with software architectures and project management.
Venue and time: yet to be decided but the workshop will be in Utrecht.
Costs: the workshop is free for students. Otherwise the fee is €150.
How to participate: if you are interested, please contact Wim at Bureau NLDITA.
