In the last few years, DITA has become widely used in Technical Documentation. Meanwhile, there are many DITA-aware tools like CMS and editors available, mostly closed-source ones.
There are, however, many applications where open source software would be preferable. Obviously, the absence of license fees makes an open source solution attractive for small customers who can’t yet afford a DITA CMS at all. On the other hand, an open source platform gives customers the flexibility to create additional seats for external authors or to give a clone of the entire system to partners or suppliers without considering license restrictions.
This presentation by Boris Horner will deal with a flexible and fully capable DITA authoring system that consists entirely of open source components.
