How Effective Use of Metadata and the Resource Description Framework (RDF) Can Be an Answer to Your DITA Dreams

mei 10, 2011 by wim

Moving an entire organization to DITA can be a game-changer.  Faster, more efficient processes, consistent, higher quality content, greater control over the entire pipeline. But a shift of this magnitude also includes many challenges – the kind that can keep you up at night.

For example, breaking your content into small modular topics is great for reuse, but could easily multiply by ten or even a hundred the numbers of files you have to manage. Finding information in this “sea of content” can be a grueling task! Linking can be another cause for concern: DITA content is full of links. Maps contain links to topics. Topics may have links to images, cross references to other topics, related links, and conrefs. Without the right tools, you may not know what content is being used where; you may not even know what content is being used at all!

During the presentation, you will see how the effective use of metadata along with existing standards such as the Resource Description Framework (RDF) can help you overcome the challenges. Those nasty nightmares will go away, and indeed, metadata and RDF may well be the answer to all of your DITA dreams!
